2016- BREC’s BATON ROUGE ZOO Photo Contest
Sponsored by THE ADVOCATE
CATEGORIES
? Children, ages 12 and younger (NOTE: Parent or guardian must register and submit photo for
this category)
? Junior, ages 13 up to 18
? Novice ADULT, beginners and nonprofessionals
? Advanced ADULT, considerable experience to professional
? Fun Foto, pictures of you, your family and/or friends having fun at the Zoo. The photo must be
identifiable as being taken at Baton Rouge Zoo.
ELIGIBILITY
Only photos taken at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo within the past year (March 30, 2015 - March 27, 2016) are
eligible. A photo can only be entered in a single category. All zoo and aquarium subject matter is
eligible, but judges will give preference to photos of animals currently on exhibit. A judging panel will
select all winners EXCEPT for fan favorite.
WINNERS' PRIZES AND PUBLICITY
A first, second and third place winner will be selected within each of the categories. The judges will
also select a grand prize winner from all entries. The zoo will also award a Fan Favorite prize. The Fan
Favorite will be determined through online voting at theadvocate.com/contests. One vote per person
per day - voting ends Tuesday, March 29
Winning entries will be exhibited during Zippity Zoo Fest, April 2 and 3, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded in every category at Zippity Zoo Fest.

DEADLINES
All photos must be uploaded by March 28. Voting for Fan Favorite will end March 29.
PHOTOGRAPH REQUIREMENTS AND RULES
? The entrant must take all photographs.
? An entry may include color or black and white photo.
? Judges will disqualify photos with obvious or excessive digital manipulation.
? Please retain a high resolution digital image. Finalists will be contacted by email by a
representative from THE ADVOCATE and will need to submit a high quality image by email at that
time.
? Zoo employees and board members, BREC employees and sponsor employees are ineligible.
PHOTO LABELING
? FOR Children and Junior Categories: When submitting a photo, please put only the first name
and age in the description area. You will submit the photographer's full name when you are
contacted by email by a representative of THE ADVOCATE.
? FOR Novice, Advanced Adult, and Fun Foto categories: When submitting a photo, the
Description area must have the photographer's full name along with any description of the photo
content.
JUDGING
Judges will evaluate entries primarily based on general interest, photographic proficiency and
reproductive quality. A panel of jurors, chosen from the professional community, will judge the entries.
All decisions made by the panel are final.
PHOTO RIGHTS/USAGE
Entries will be acknowledged by email so it is very important to have a valid email address when
registering and to check that email periodically. Photographs remain the copyrighted property of the
photographer; however, BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo and Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo and THE ADVOCATE
reserve the non-exclusive right to use the imaged submitted to the contest for publicity, advertising,
promotional, educational, and other purposes without obtaining further permission and/or
compensation. The Baton Rouge Zoo and Friends of the Zoo and THE ADVOCATE will attempt to give
credit to the photographer. Uploading your photo constitutes acceptance of these terms.
No purchase necessary. One valid entry per contestant.
You must be 13 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible for this contest. This contest is void where prohibited by law.
Winners will be notified by email. If a winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected. If The Advocate cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
Automated voting of any kind is not allowed. Detection of said automated voting will lead to votes being voided.
Only one registered account per voter. If multiple accounts are detected for a single voter, they will be disabled and votes disqualified.
The Advocate reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
The Advocate reserves the right to restrict the local winners to only persons whose primary residence is within a 60 mile radius of the affiliate's' office.
Employees of The Advocate, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible.
Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.
Entrants further grant to The Advocate the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Contest.
The Advocate reserves the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.
The Contest and all of the related pages, contents and code are copyright, UPICKEM, and/or The Advocate. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize.
UPICKEM and The Advocate are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God.
All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to e-mail notification.
Each winner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes and will be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold prizes until completed form W-9 is received.
This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
The Advocate reserves the right to change the rules at any time.
